Consumer comfort climbs to second-highest level since 2008
Consumer comfort jumped to the second-highest level since 2008 last week, according to Bloomberg News.
Bloomberg’s Consumer Comfort Index rose to 38.1 in the period ending Nov. 2, which is slightly lower than the 38.3 recorded in August, 2013.
{mosads}The public’s view of the economy dropped slightly from 27.9 to 27.4, but it still hovers around a reading of 28 Bloomberg measured in mid-October. That reading was the highest since January, 2008, before the recession hit.
Consumer confidence rose last week among homeowners, women and people 65 years and older to the highest level since 2007, Bloomberg found.
People’s perceptions of their personal finances also rose from 52.2 to 54.1 on the Bloomberg index. Likewise, the measure that records whether people think it’s a good time to make purchases went up from 31.6 to 32.7.
Labor Department reported Thursday that monthly jobless benefits claimed dropped to a 14-year low last week.
