Manchin to leave banking panel?
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) signaled Wednesday he’s willing to move off the Senate Banking Committee in order for Sen.-elect Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) to join the panel.
{mosads}Capito, who currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee, has been active in banking regulatory issues.
“I enjoy the Banking Committee, but I haven’t seen other opportunities,” Manchin said in an interview. “There are other committees I’m interested in also, and sometimes you have to try to shuffle them around.”
Manchin’s exit would open up a spot for another Democrat to join the committee, but it’s unclear who would replace him.
“We’re going to meet and talk,” Manchin said of Capito. “And we’ll try to work together.”
Leadership typically likes to only have one member from each state be able to serve on committees.
