Confidence in economy dips after Obama’s immigration action

Economic confidence dipped slightly last week from the highest score recorded since June 2013, Gallup said Tuesday.

The confidence index dropped to -10 from the high of -6. The latest score, however, still remains one of the highest weekly averages since Gallup began measuring the index in 2008.

{mosads}The index might have increased to the high of -6 this month as a result of the midterm election results, Gallup said. President Obama’s immigration announcement might have caused it to decrease in the last week, Gallup added.

Gallup said economic confidence had been relatively stable this year and hovered around -16 until early October.

The confidence level improved in October in the run-up to the midterm elections.

Last week, nearly a quarter of people said the economy is “excellent” or “good” while nearly a third said it was “poor.”

Forty-one percent, meanwhile, said the economy is improving, but more than half said it’s getting worse.

The poll surveyed 3,547 adults by telephone between Nov. 17-23 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
