Tax chairman: More work coming on temporary provisions

“If extenders are beneficial and are helping the economy, then they should be seriously considered,” Camp will say Thursday at a conference hosted by the Federal Policy Group and Baker and Hostetler. “On the other hand, if an extender has outlived its value, and if it is not producing the economic benefits it once was, then we need to determine whether there is merit in continuing that provision.”

{mosads}House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) already said this week that the chamber would move to continue the Bush-era tax rates this year while also putting tax reform on a fast-track for 2013. Tiberi said Wednesday he expected the tax extenders to be dealt with in a separate measure.

Republicans have said they do not see a need to pay for extending the Bush tax cuts, which congressional scorekeepers say would add hundreds of billions of dollars to the deficit.

But under House rules, extending the temporary tax provisions, which cost far less, would need to be offset.
