Yellen to meet with Senate Banking chief
Senate Banking Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) will meet with Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen on Tuesday.
The meeting was originally scheduled for last week but was postponed due to the weather.
{mosads}Pressed on their agenda, Shelby said he would let Yellen set the discussion.
“She called the meeting,” Shelby told The Hill.
The meeting comes as Congress is taking new interest in shaking up the Fed. Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-Ky.) Audit the Fed bill would allow Congress more oversight of the central bank, and Yellen staunchly opposes the measure.
Shelby is not a co-sponsor of the bill but has said he is considering legislation to shift the board’s structure. The chairman is holding a series of hearings to examine the central bank’s transparency.
Last month, Yellen also met with Senate Democrats.
