Gallup: Employment gender gap persists

In all, 43 percent of women and 49 percent of men around the world are fully employed. The employment gap between the two genders is largest, 9 percent, in sub-Saharan Africa, and stands at 7 percent in both the Americas and Asia.

{mosads}But the gap is much narrower in Europe and the former Soviet Union, and women are even more likely to be employed in Europe, by 1 percentage point. The maximum margin of error for the survey was 1 percentage point.

According to Gallup, this particular employment measure is more strongly correlated to gross domestic product and household income than the traditional unemployment figures.

Gallup also found that at least three out of four women were employed to capacity in 17 countries, all of those either in Asia or Europe.

On the flip side, 10 percent or fewer of women in Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Guinea, Nepal and Benin were fully employed.
