Consumer confidence rises slightly since March

Consumer confidence rose slightly since March, according to a Thompson Reuters/IPSOS survey released Wednesday

The poll showed the confidence index increase by 0.4 percentage points since last month. A slight uptick in the jobs index following a two-month decline is stabilizing the level of confidence, Reuters noted.

{mosads}The confidence index takes in consumers’ attitudes toward their personal finances, confidence in making large investments, the current and future state of local economies and their savings.

The survey comes a day after the Labor Department reported job openings reached a 14-year high in February. Businesses listed 5.1 million jobs that month, up 168,000 from January and the most since January 2001.

Last week, however, the Labor Department said job growth slowed sharply in March to its weakest level in more than a year. Employers added 126,000 new jobs last month.

The Reuters/IPSOS poll surveyed more than 1,000 adults between March 20 and April 3 with a 3-percentage-point margin of error.
