Democrat lauds Trump for slamming China

A Michigan Democrat is agreeing with Donald Trump’s take on China and the U.S. economy.

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) says the GOP presidential front-runner is “spot on” in slamming China’s devaluation of its currency.

{mosads}“Countries like China that cheat and don’t play by the rules hurt good paying American jobs — like the ones we have right here in Michigan in the auto industry, and it needs to stop,” Dingell said in a statement.

“I am pleased Mr. Trump made this point loudly and clearly when he visited Michigan,” said Dingell, who represents the district long-served by her husband, former Rep. John Dingell.

On a campaign stop in Michigan on Tuesday, Trump said the Chinese are “just destroying us.”

“They keep devaluing their currency until they get it right,” he said. “They’re doing a big cut to the yuan, and that’s going to be devastating for us.”

China’s currency dropped further on Wednesday, by another 1.6 percent.

“China has gotten rich off us,” Trump said. “China has rebuilt itself with the money it’s sucked out of the United States and the jobs that it’s sucked out of the United States.”

Dingell has joined a bipartisan group of House and Senate lawmakers calling for adding enforceable protections against currency manipulation into trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

“I hope Republicans and Democrats can work together to stop China and others from cheating the system and stand up for American workers,” she said.
