Cruz touts tax plan, rips Trump’s ’empty promises’

GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz has released a trio of new ads, including one that focuses on his tax plan.

The 30-second videos were posted on the Cruz campaign’s YouTube channel on Friday, and a spokeswoman for the campaign said they are running in Wisconsin. The state’s primary is April 5.

In the tax-focused spot, the Texas senator says his plan will level the playing field for workers.

“As Washington pads Wall Street’s pockets, hard-working Americans get left behind. My tax plan will change that,” he said.

The ad notes that Cruz’s plan includes instituting a 10 percent flat tax for individuals and abolishing the IRS. It states that the plan would result in higher take-home pay for working families and economic growth, and it references a column on TownHall.com that argued Cruz’s plan would bring jobs back to the United States.

The ad does not mention Cruz’s 16 percent “business flat tax” that analysts have said is a type of value-added tax.

In another ad, Cruz says he is running for president to relieve people’s anxieties.

“As American families sit around their kitchen tables, they’re worried. Worried they’re fallen behind. Worried about their jobs, their freedom, their security. That’s why I’m running for president,” Cruz says.

“To restore opportunity, raise wages and bring jobs back to America. To secure our border and protect us from our enemies. To reverse the damage Obama’s done and restore the Constitution.”

The third ad takes a swipe at the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump.

An auto-shop owner says in a voiceover, “Donald Trump’s empty promises won’t cut it. The next president needs to be a principled leader with a real plan to turn things around and help every family in this town. Ted Cruz is that principled leader.”
