IRS: Tax filing season to begin Jan. 30

The deal struck by Washington in early January would extend tax rates for annual individual income up to $400,000, and family income of up to $450,000.

{mosads}The Alternative Minimum Tax, a system designed to ensure that the wealthy can’t legally evade taxes, was also permanently indexed to inflation under the deal, and a variety of other tax breaks were extended.

Miller had warned Congress in December that as many as 100 million returns, out of around 150 million overall, could face delay without lawmaker action.

The IRS now says that more than 120 million households can start filing on Jan. 30, including those who will take advantage of the AMT “patch” and tax breaks for state and local sales taxes and tuition payments.
