DNC launches website poking Trump on tax returns

The Democratic National Committee has launched a website to go after Donald Trump for refusing to release his tax returns.

The website, taxesbytrump.com, asks visitors to click on a button to view the GOP presumptive presidential nominee’s returns. But when people put their cursor over the button, it moves.

“Throughout much of his campaign, Donald Trump promised to release his tax returns, but now that he’s the nominee, he’s refusing to do so,” the site states. “What is Donald Trump hiding?”

Business Insider first reported Wednesday’s launch of the DNC site.

DNC national press secretary Mark Paustenbach said it is hypocritical that Trump asked for tax information from veterans’ charities before donating to them, yet has not released his own returns.

“Donald Trump is the standard-bearer for a double standard, and his standard for ‘deal-making’ has no place in the White House,” Paustenbach said in a statement on the DNC’s “Factivists” website.

Trump has said that he will release his returns once the Internal Revenue Service finishes auditing him. The IRS has said that nothing, including an audit, prevents people from releasing their own tax information.

Democrats have been increasing their attacks on Trump’s tax returns in recent weeks. Hillary Clinton, who has released more than 30 years of her returns, has suggested that the businessman isn’t paying a federal income tax.

On Tuesday, the Democratic Party’s account tweeted “Donald Trump, Release your tax returns! Sincerely, America.”

Some Republicans are also urging Trump to release his returns. On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told Business Insider that Trump should release his returns because every candidate in the past several decades has done so.
