Senate panels to consider Trump’s Budget pick Wednesday
Two Senate panels are slated to vote Wednesday on President Trump’s pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget.
The votes come after OMB nominee Mick Mulvaney, a Republican congressman from South Carolina, testified before the Senate Budget Committee and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGA) Committee last week.
{mosads}During the hearings, Mulvaney said he wouldn’t back away from his desire to reform Medicare and Social Security, despite Trump’s campaign pledges not to touch the programs.
He also defended himself when asked about his failure to pay taxes on a household employee in the early 2000s, saying he had viewed the woman as a babysitter as opposed to a nanny and has taken steps to correct the issue.
The Budget and HSGA committees have joint jurisdiction over Mulvaney’s nomination.
