First-time jobless claims rise 13,000

Claims for benefits peaked in March 2009 at 670,000.

Employers added 162,000 jobs last month, a disappointing figure, while the jobless rate fell to 7.4 percent from 7.6 percent in June.

Still, unemployment is high and economists don’t expect the rate to drop to 7 percent until, at least, the end of the year.
