US food insecurity remains at recession levels, says USDA

{mosads}Conservatives are looking to trim the food stamp program during this year’s farm bill process. The House is expected to vote on a bill as early as next week that would cut $40 billion from the program over 10 years, mostly by removing the ability of states to waive work or training requirements.

Liberals say the cuts are draconian and that food insecurity can be blamed at least in part on failure to enact a higher minimum wage law during a time of high corporate profits. Senate Democrats have vowed to oppose the new level of cuts the House GOP is seeking for food stamps.
