Ex-‘Jersey Shore’ star The Situation faces new charges in tax case
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s tax troubles aren’t going away.
The former “Jersey Shore” star and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, were indicted Friday on additional charges in their tax case, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Friday.
{mosads}The brothers were initially indicted in federal court in New Jersey on tax and conspiracy charges in 2014. Mike Sorrentino now also faces tax evasion and structuring charges, and his brother is now also charged with falsifying records to obstruct a grand jury investigation, DOJ said.
According to prosecutors, the brothers failed to pay all of the federal income tax they owed on about $8.9 million that Mike Sorrentino earned from 2010 to 2012.
The brothers created businesses related to Mike’s celebrity status, and they allegedly filed tax returns that underreported business income and claimed fraudulent business deductions. They also allegedly used funds from business bank accounts to pay for personal items including luxury vehicles and clothes.
The new indictment argues that Mike Sorrentino evaded his 2011 taxes and made several cash deposits on one day of less than $10,000 to avoid bank reporting requirements. It also alleges that Marc Sorrentino falsified business records produced to the Grand Jury by reclassifying taxable payments made to him as nontaxable payments and business deductions.
The brothers are scheduled to appear in court on April 17.
