Edward DeMarco, a former top housing regulator, will join the Financial Services Roundtable (FSR) in June to tackle housing issues.

DeMarco, who spent nearly five years as the acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) will become president of FSR’s Housing Policy Council on June 1.

“Ed is a deeply knowledgeable and passionate policy expert who understands how government and industry can better work together to drive economic growth while protecting taxpayers and consumers,” Pawlenty said.

DeMarco is replacing John Dalton who spent 12 years in the job.

From 2009 to 2014 DeMarco helmed the FHFA, which oversees mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that were taken over by the government during the 2008 financial crisis.

After leaving FHFA, DeMarco joined the Milken Institute’s Center for Financial Markets where he was a senior fellow-in-residence.
