A tax reform campaign backed by progressive organizations is running television ads urging GOP lawmakers in competitive districts to oppose tax cuts for the wealthy.
Not One Penny rolled out a seven-figure ad campaign on Friday, and the group on Monday announced that it is also running Spanish-language ads as part of the campaign.
The ads ask the public to tell their lawmakers that there should be “not one penny in tax cuts to millionaires, billionaires and wealthy corporations.”
The Spanish-language ads are running in the congressional districts of Reps. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) and Will Hurd (R-Texas). English-language ads are running in McSally’s and Hurd’s districts as well as in Washington, D.C., and the districts of GOP Reps. Rod Blum (Iowa), David Young (Iowa), Kevin Yoder (Kan.), Bruce Poliquin (Maine), Rick Crawford (Ark.) and Darrell Issa (Calif.).
Most of the lawmakers singled out by Not One Penny are also being targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the midterm elections.
The ads come as congressional Republicans and the White House are aiming to pass tax-reform legislation that cuts tax rates for individuals and businesses across-the-board. But most Senate Democrats earlier this month said that they won’t support any plan that includes tax cuts for those in the top 1 percent of income brackets.
“The Not One Penny Campaign will hold lawmakers accountable for trying to give even more tax breaks to billionaires and corporate insiders, while working American families foot the bill, ” said Tax March Executive Director Nicole Gill. Her group is one of the partners on the Not One Penny campaign.
Angel Padilla — policy director at the Indivisible Project, another Not One Penny partner organization — said the campaign “is reaching out to the Latino community because they are a critical voice in making sure members of Congress reject any tax cuts that slash programs for the middle class in order to fund tax breaks for corporations and the super rich.”
