GOP group spending $2M on new tax reform TV ads

The American Action Network announced Thursday that it is spending $2 million on new television ads promoting a tax-code rewrite, one week after congressional GOP leaders and the White House released their tax framework.

The ads feature a Michigan woman who argues that her family would gain “some piece of mind” from middle-class tax cuts and a simpler tax code.

The commercials will run for two weeks on national cable networks and in 28 GOP-held districts, including many held by lawmakers whom Democrats are targeting in the midterms, the group said.

American Action Network, which is aligned with House GOP leadership, has been aggressively campaigning for tax reform for the past several months, and the new ad buy brings the group’s total spending on the issue to $10 million. Executive director Corry Bliss said that in the wake of the release of the GOP tax framework, “Congress now has the responsibility to act quickly.”

It isn’t the only group campaigning on tax reform. Americans for Prosperity and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have each released new ads this week that are supportive of Republicans’ efforts, while the Not One Penny campaign has produced ads urging lawmakers to reject any tax cuts for wealthy individuals and corporations.
