Opposition to corporate tax rate cut edges up
A key component of Republicans’ tax-reform plan is becoming more unpopular with Americans, according to a new Politico-Morning Consult poll.
Forty-one percent of respondents said lowering the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent should not be a part of the tax reform legislation, while 39 percent said it should be included.
The percentage of respondents opposed to lowering the corporate tax rate has gone up in recent weeks.
{mosads}Thirty-eight percent of respondents said they were opposed to raising the rate on corporations earlier in October, according to Politico.
However, support for the overall tax reform plan remains steady, with 48 percent of respondents saying they approved of it, while 37 percent opposed it, according to poll.
The survey comes after House Republicans announced they would delay the release of the tax-reform proposal, choosing to release it on Thursday instead of Wednesday.
“In consultation with President Trump and our leadership team, we have decided to release the bill text on Thursday. We are pleased with the progress we are making and we remain on schedule to take action and approve a bill at our Committee beginning next week,” House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) said in a statement.
The Politico-Morning Consult poll was conducted from Oct. 26 to 30 among 1,990 voters with a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
