RNC launches new website to promote Trump tax bill

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is launching a webpage and six-figure ad campaign to aid President Trump and GOP leaders in their closing arguments for tax-reform legislation.

The webpage appears under the banner “Paycheck President,” and features a 90-second video of Trump pitching the Republican tax plan in a recent speech.

The page also provides contact information for Democratic senators, and encourages constituents in certain states to contact their representative.

“The media won’t tell you the overwhelming support of the President’s Tax Plan,” the page claims. 

A recent poll found that while 72 percent of Republicans support the party’s tax-reform efforts, 64 percent of respondents overall oppose the bill.

The RNC’s webpage will be supplemented by a six-figure digital ad buy, ABC News reported.

The House and Senate are expected to vote on the legislation next week after a deal was reached on reconciling the versions passed by each chamber. 

Senate Republicans hold a 52-seat majority, meaning they can only afford to lose two GOP senators and still have Vice President Pence break a tie, assuming all Democrats vote against the bill as expected.

Pence’s office announced Thursday that the vice president would delay his planned trip to the Middle East so he could attend the vote.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) voted against the Senate’s tax bill before it went to a conference committee, and indicated this week that he’s undecided on the latest version, saying it doesn’t address his concerns about the deficit. 

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) told Senate leaders on Thursday he will vote against the bill unless the child tax credit is made more generous.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said he is undecided, citing the child tax credit.

Democrats have urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to delay the vote so newly elected Democrat Doug Jones (Ala.) can be seated and cast a vote.
