Toys R Us closing all of its US stores: report

Toys R Us will sell or close all 800 of its stores in the US, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

The company, once the top toy store chain in the country, had filed for bankruptcy six months ago. The closures are expected to impact up to 33,000 jobs, according to the Post.

The toy company reportedly told U.S. staffers that the closures would be spread out over time. The chain announced in January that it would be shuttering 182 stores in the United States.

The chain had also announced Wednesday that it was shutting down all 100 of its stores in the United Kingdom.

Toys R Us had been struggling in recent years as it attempted to pay off nearly $8 billion in debt.

The company also had difficulty finding a buyer, and had also reportedly stopped paying suppliers, according to the Post.
