The progressive group Tax March on Monday announced that it is leading a new $2 million campaign aimed at pressing GOP lawmakers in key states and districts to back President Biden’s economic agenda.

Tax March said the campaign includes a $1 million ad buy focused on Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who is up for reelection next year in a state that Biden carried in 2020. The campaign also includes a paid media and ground campaign targeting several GOP House members — including Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (Iowa), Steve Chabot (Ohio) and Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), who all represent seats considered “Districts in Play” by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The new campaign comes as congressional Democrats are working on a bill that would raise taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations in order to finance up to $3.5 trillion in spending and tax cuts in areas such as child care and health care. No Republicans are expected to vote for such a package.

“While Democrats are working to rebalance the economy for all Americans, Republicans are fighting for their billionaire donors — again,” Tax March Executive Director Maura Quint said in a news release. “As voters, we are mobilizing to tell Congress they must choose the side of working families, not big corporations and the rich.”

Tax March also said that it is working with other progressive organizations this week to highlight polling showing that elements of Democrats’ economic agenda are popular with the public. Other groups that are participating in this week of action include Move On, Citizens for Tax Justice and Center for American Progress Action.

CNBC first reported on the new efforts.
