Goldman’s executive suite to testify before Congress
Tuesday’s hearing will be the fourth in a series on the causes and consequences of the financial crisis. The meeting will focus on the role of investment banks that peddled mortgage-back securities that eventually became toxic and contributed mightily to the near-collapse of the financial markets.
The SEC has claimed that Goldman withheld from investors material information about the soundness of the mortgage-backed securities they purchased. Tourre was the only individual named in the SEC case and has been accused of selling these products that he knew would eventually lose value.
