IRS notifying small businesses about healthcare tax credit
The credit is available to small employers that pay at least half the cost of single coverage for their employees this year and can be claimed on their 2011 tax returns.
Eligibility is based in part on the number of full-time equivalent employees, not the number of employees. Businesses that employ part-timers may qualify if they have more than 25 individuals on their payrolls. The credit is completely phased out for employers that have 25 full-time equivalent employees or more or that pay average wages of $50,000 per year or more, according to the IRS.
