Patient satisfaction with hospital care on the rise, annual report says

• Patients were the most satisfied with discharge instructions (81 percent said they got that information);

• Far fewer were satisfied with the explanation of medications they were given (58 percent); and

• Even fewer were happy with how quiet their room was (55 percent).

The survey is based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from April 2009 to March 2010. The analysis looked at patient satisfaction data for 3,797 U.S. hospitals.

The survey also identified the top 10 percent of hospitals for patient satisfaction.
