HHS delays action on two states’ requests for healthcare waivers
{mosads}Iowa requested a 60 percent standard in 2011, followed by 70 percent in 2012 and 75 percent in 2013. The adjustments are only available through 2014, when all plans in all states will have to meet the benchmarks outlined in the healthcare law.
North Dakota proposed a 65 percent standard this year, increasing to 70 percent and 75 percent in the next two years.
So far, HHS hasn’t denied a requested adjustment. It has granted three, though not always at the exact levels the states proposed. The department said in extending the public comment periods for Iowa and North Dakota that it expects to make a decision once the additional 30 days runs out.
Another eight applications are still pending.
