Rep. Jordan: GOP should have focused on ObamaCare delay

{mosads}”If we’d been more consistent in our argument … I think we could win this with the American people and begin to reverse the direction of his ObamaCare.”

The comments come as both chambers prepare to vote on a final deal that would reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling.

The package contains only one provision related to ObamaCare, requiring more rigorous income verification when people apply for federal discounts on healthcare coverage.

This fact is a major blow to conservatives who entered the shutdown fight hoping to stop the healthcare law in its tracks.

Jordan was part of a group of congressional Republicans who hoped to defund ObamaCare using the need to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling as leverage.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who led the campaign, said Wednesday that he did not intend to delay the final Senate votes.

“The timing of the vote will make no difference to the outcome,” Cruz said. “I have no intention of delaying the vote.”
