Report: HealthCare.gov shirked security rules

The Obama administration launched HealthCare.gov despite indications that the site was a “high [security] risk” due to insufficient testing, according to a report.

Federal health officials have acknowledged that the still-struggling online portal did not undergo enough trials ahead of its debut on Oct. 1.

{mosads}But documents released by the House Oversight Committee suggest that the administration granted itself a waiver to launch the site regardless of its security status.

The revelation comes as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rushes to fix HealthCare.gov by the end of the month, a self-imposed deadline whereby most users should be able to navigate the site without serious problems.

Republicans have warned that the enrollment portal may put users’ personal data at risk. HHS insists that the site is safe.

CBS News reported that the late-September waiver to launch the site came after several missed deadlines for security testing.
