ObamaCare gets dismal marks in new poll

A majority of voters disapprove of the Affordable Care Act, according to a survey released Thursday by The Morning Consult.

{mosads}According to the poll, 53 percent disapprove of the law, with 39 percent saying they strongly disapprove. Forty-one percent said they approve, and of those, only 17 said they strongly approve.

The law is particularly unpopular with independents in the poll. Sixty-three percent said they disapprove, with 44 percent of those saying they do so strongly. Only 28 percent of independents approve, with 7 saying they strongly approve.

In addition, 58 percent of independents said they now trust Republicans to handle healthcare more than they trust Democrats.

A strong majority, 61 percent, said the law would likely mean they will have to pay more of insurance. A plurality, 44 percent, said the law would negatively affect their families, against 34 percent who said it would have no effect. On both of these issues, independents again outpaced the total pool of registered voters with their negative views of the law.

The Affordable Care Act is also dragging down President Obama, with 54 percent saying they are less likely to trust him as a result of the healthcare rollout. Sixty-five percent said the president broke his promise that “if you like your healthcare plan you can keep it,” with 57 saying that will be a primary voting issue in 2014.

The Morning Consult poll of 2,008 registered voters was conducted between Nov. 14 and Nov. 17 and has a 2 percentage point margin of error.
