Hoyer: No need to ‘start over’ on ObamaCare

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said the White House and Congress “don’t need to start over” on President Obama’s signature healthcare law.

Hoyer said there was a difference between the disastrous rollout of the law – which he said frustrated all ObamaCare supporters – and the law itself.

{mosads}“I don’t think ObamaCare has failed,” Hoyer said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“Access to ObamaCare has been a failure at this point in time, and it needs to be fixed.”

“The necessity is that we fix this access to it,” Hoyer also said. “And I think over time, the American public is going to see it works well.”

But House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), also appearing on “Face the Nation,” noted polling that said that six in 10 are now opposed to the Affordable Care Act and said: “I do not believe you can fix this law.”

Republicans have pounded Democrats about the healthcare law’s rollout, after the end of the recent government shutdown.

But the House GOP has yet to coalesce around a plan to replace ObamaCare. On Sunday, McCarthy mentioned several different policies that Republicans have proposed before, including tort reform and allowing insurance to be sold across state lines.
