Nearly 15,000 New Yorkers enroll in O-Care in last week
Nearly 15,000 New Yorkers have enrolled in ObamaCare in the last week, the state’s Health Department announced.
As of Monday morning, 91,103 people have completed the enrollment process to obtain the health insurance through the state’s marketplace.
Notably, a majority of these enrollees — 50,199 — selected a qualified health plan while 40,984 qualified for Medicaid, the government’s health insurance program for low-income individuals.
Until now, the state had not distinguished the difference between enrollees who chose private plans and those who opted for Medicaid.
{mosads}That difference likely represents good news for the Obama administration, which intended to target uninsured people.
A week ago, the department revealed around 28,000 people had enrolled in ObamaCare during the two weeks prior.
New York is one of 14 states that are running their own exchanges instead of making the federal portal, HealthCare.gov, available to their residents.
The Obama administration had been keen on touting state enrollment numbers as it repaired the federal site. On Sunday, officials said the website now works for the vast majority of users.
Last month, the Obama administration revealed 106,185 people enrolled in ObamaCare, and less than 27,000 of them used HealthCare.gov. On Monday, multiple reports said 100,000 people enrolled in November using the federal portal.
New Yorkers have until Dec. 23 to sign up and enroll in a health plan to ensure they are covered in the first round starting Jan. 1.
