McConnell: Reid attack ‘astonishing’

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Democrats are lashing out against an ObamaCare ad campaign because they are “desperate” to avoid a political reckoning in November.

{mosads}“They’re desperate because every single one of them provided the vote that passed ObamaCare. It’s been a disaster for the country and they’re afraid they’re going to pay the price for it later,” McConnell said Wednesday on Fox News’s “The Kelly File.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday twice accused the billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch of funding ads that feature false testimonials about ObamaCare.

Democrats and liberal blogs have attacked the ObamaCare ads as false and politically driven and say the people portrayed as seriously ill are actors reading from scripts.

“Republicans may need tall tales and outright lies to convince the public that ObamaCare is bad for them, but Democrats, we don’t have to make things up,” Reid said Wednesday.

“The Koch brothers are spending hundreds of millions of dollars telling Americans that ObamaCare is bad for them. It’s easy to do if you have no conscience and are willing to lie, like they are.”

McConnell slammed Reid’s rhetoric as “unacceptable” and predicted it will embolden more people to come forward about their experiences with ObamaCare.

“I think people are going to be twice as angry about it, to see the Senate majority leader calling them a liar,” McConnell said. “I think it’s going to embolden more people to come forward, we know these tragic stories are occurring all across the country, we hear about them every day, and I don’t think they’re going to be intimidated by Harry Reid.”

McConnell said he hears stories every day of constituents who are suffering under the healthcare law.

“[Reid] must think everybody who disagrees with him is a liar — I mean, it’s astonishing behavior,” McConnell said. “It certainly doesn’t lend credit to the Senate.”
