Dems attack House GOP’s 50th O-Care vote

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other Democrats are fed up with House Republican efforts to repeal or alter the Affordable Care Act. 

{mosads}Pelosi on Wednesday released a list of 50 Affordable Care Act accomplishments, as House Republicans prepared to vote on a bill that would eliminate the individual mandate penalty under ObamaCare in 2014.

Democrats say Wednesday’s vote will be the 50th time House Republicans have attempted to repeal or make changes to the law that would effectively undermine it. The minority leader is countering with 50 ways she says the law is already benefitting Americans. 

On Pelosi’s list: the 4 million people who have so far selected a plan through ObamaCare; 2014 premiums that are lower than the Congressional Budget Office initially projected; the billions of dollars that have been recovered through efforts to crack down on Medicare fraud and a slowed rate of growth for healthcare spending. 

Republicans have voted dozens of times to repeal or alter the Affordable Care Act, while Democrats have decried their attempts as a waste of time. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is unlikely to consider any of the House-passed bills in the upper chamber, and President Obama has threatened to veto some of the bills, including Wednesday’s.

Still, Republicans have been able to peel off some Democrats, who worry their proximity to ObamaCare will hurt them in the 2014 midterm elections.

Twelve House Democrats have sponsored a bill similar to Wednesday’s to delay the individual mandate, and 22 Democrats joined Republicans on a different individual mandate bill that passed the House in July.
