Pelosi: O-Care will be a ‘wash’ in the midterms

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said ObamaCare will be a “wash” as a political issue by the November elections as Republicans and Democrats vie for advantage in debates over the law.

The comment represents a subtle shift from earlier this year, when Pelosi said healthcare reform would be a “winner” for Democrats in swing districts.

{mosads}”We’re not running on or from the Affordable Care Act,” Pelosi told Vox.com in an interview posted Monday. “We’re very proud of it. … [But] the members will make a judgment about their own districts.”

At the same time, Pelosi said that the law’s eight million enrollments on the insurance exchanges would be a “plus” for candidates on her side.

“The Democrats will run on saying that the Affordable Care Act is really important for America’s families … [and that] we stand ready to improve it as we see how it is implemented,” she said.

Republicans are still hoping that the November midterms will be a referendum on ObamaCare, which remains unpopular with the public.

But improvements in the law’s rollout, including the eight million enrollments, has produced a wave of good news for ObamaCare that has helped neutralize GOP attacks.

Pelosi argued that the Affordable Care Act has “lost some of its weight” as an issue for the GOP, leading them to focus on the administration’s response to the attack in Benghazi, Libya.
