Rep. Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) is ripping Republicans for calling for an end to subsidies that help people pay for ObamaCare.
Levin said Republicans calling for the subsidies to end until the administration can prove all recipients are getting exactly what they are eligible for will take away health insurance from people.
{mosads}“What’s troubling is that in their zeal to continue to play politics with Americans’ health insurance, congressional Republicans are now trying to deny tax credits to millions of individuals and families just weeks after many of them signed up for coverage,” Levin, the ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, said in a statement Wednesday.
In a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, GOP lawmakers on Levin’s panel led by Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich) cited a report that hundreds of thousands of people may be receiving incorrect subsidies on the exchanges.
They demanded that Treasury stop all ObamaCare subsidies until the issue is resolved.
Levin spokeswoman Caroline Behringer argued it was anticipated that there would be some problems in verifying subsidy eligibility, and that the law allows the Health and Human Services Department to resolve potential discrepancies within 90 days.
