Administration questioning thousands on O-Care subsidies

The Obama administration is reaching out to hundreds of thousands of new ObamaCare enrollees to ensure their eligibility for premium subsidies was determined correctly.

The effort was undertaken after federal health officials discovered rampant discrepancies between official records and applications for coverage on the exchanges.

{mosads}Roughly 2 million people with mismatched income, citizenship or immigration status information are being asked to provide additional documentation to the government.

“If you don’t send the needed documents,” the notice to enrollees states, “you risk losing your marketplace coverage or help you may be receiving to pay for such coverage.”

The administration has said that in many cases, federal records are simply out of date, and most discrepancies are being resolved in consumers’ favor.

Nevertheless, the errors are troubling consumer advocates who worry that some will lose their coverage or their subsidies.

ObamaCare’s Republican critics are also pouncing on the errors to argue that the administration was unprepared to handle enrollment under the law.
