A five-year-old boy in New York City is being tested for Ebola after returning from an affected West African country, New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett confirmed Monday.
{mosads}The boy is at Bellevue Hospital, the same hospital where the city’s first Ebola patient, Dr. Craig Spencer, is staying.
Bassett said on MSNBC that the boy had a “low grade fever” and had traveled to one of the affected countries, triggering an Ebola test. She said the results should be available by Monday afternoon.
“He has no clear exposure to Ebola, but our exposure history is unclear,” she said.
The boy was taken to the hospital by emergency medical workers wearing full protective gear, Bassett said.
The possible new Ebola case was detected amid controversy over a mandatory quarantine policy imposed by New York and New Jersey, which Govs. Andrew Cuomo (D) and Chris Christie (R) appear to be walking back.
