NYC Ebola patient’s condition improving
Doctors treating the New York City Ebola patient upgraded his condition from “serious but stable” to “stable” on Saturday.
Craig Spencer, a doctor who treated Ebola patients in Guinea, is receiving medical care at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.
{mosads}The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation said the upgrade in his condition is due to his “clinical progress and response to treatment.”
While Ebola has no known cure, Spencer received a blood transfusion from another U.S. aid worker who recovered from Ebola earlier this year.
Spencer is one of nine people who have been treated for Ebola in the United States since Aug. 2.
Besides Spencer, all but one have recovered from the virus.
Spencer’s case is notable for prompting New York and New Jersey to impose strict quarantine orders for healthcare workers returning from West Africa.
Most governors have not adopted that strict approach, which contradicts guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
New York City officials said Spencer’s fiancee, Morgan Dixon, remains quarantined in her apartment.
