Planned Parenthood touts ground game
Supporters of Planned Parenthood’s political affiliates have knocked on 2 million doors and made a million calls for Democratic candidates this election cycle, the group announced Monday.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Votes have been active on behalf of vulnerable incumbents including Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), and will have thousands of workers on the ground to get out the vote on Tuesday, they said.
{mosads}The “Women are Watching” campaign produced more than 260,000 home visits and 88,000 phone calls this weekend, the announcement stated.
Democrats are counting on a strong get-out-the-vote operation to counter Republican momentum in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
Independent analysts have said the GOP is likely to take control of the Senate, though the White House and Democratic National Committee predict it will stay in Democratic hands.
Planned Parenthood’s political arms played a major role in shaping the “war on women” narrative that helped Democrats in 2012.
And while debates over birth control and abortion access remain in the news, they are part of a wider mix of issues influencing the political environment this cycle.
Planned Parenthood’s electoral affiliates are also leveraging their celebrity supporters in the final weeks of the campaign to boost turnout among unmarried women and those who support abortion rights.
The latest star to promote the groups’ agenda is actress Gabrielle Union, who posted a video Monday urging women voters to go to the polls on Tuesday.
