Boehner uses Leonardo DiCaprio to explain ‘doc fix’ bill
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is touting the Medicare payment bill recently passed by the House — which he describes as “titanic entitlement reform” — with the help of Leonardo DiCaprio.
The Speaker’s office on Friday published 10 GIFs featuring the “Titanic” star to explain a $200 billion Medicare package set to be considered by the Senate this month.
{mosads}“This breakthrough is more than just a life raft,” the office wrote in a blog. “It is an important step to begin to right the ship and secure fair winds and calm seas for our children and grandchildren — the future kings and queens of the world,” the office wrote.
The blog said the soaring costs of programs like Medicare “are just the tip of the iceberg compared to what’s coming if we don’t change course.”
It also warned that “national debt can flood even the biggest of ships.”
The bill, which would reform Medicare doctors’ payments, has been pitched by House Republicans and Democrats as the biggest piece of entitlement reform since 1997, the year that the movie “Titanic” debuted.
The bill, which was personally negotiated between Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), will head to the Senate next week.
