GOP Sen. Thune urges IRS to stop ObamaCare work
{mosads}”Addressing Ms. Hall Ingram’s involvement with the targeting of conservative groups is one of many answers that are needed before the public’s trust in our government agencies is restored,” Thune wrote to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and Attorney General Eric Holder.
The IRS recently admitted to applying extra scrutiny to Tea Party and other conservative groups as they applied for tax-exempt status. Hall Ingram was commissioner in charge of these operations at one point, though the agency has said her work did not overlap with the discrimination.
Republicans have seized on the scandal as evidence that the IRS cannot be trusted to neutrally enforce healthcare reform.
In his letter, Thune asked Holder to confirm whether Hall Ingram is the subject of a criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. He asked that no Affordable Care Act regulations move forward until Hall Ingram is exonerated or forced out, if an investigation is underway.
