SARS-like coronavirus spreads to Italy
{mosads}The World Health Organization reported Friday that there have been 50 lab-confirmed cases of the new coronavirus worldwide since September 2012. Thirty of the cases ended in death.
Health experts believe the virus originated in the Middle East, leading to its designation as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
The bug has since spread to France, Germany, Britain and now Italy. The Italian patient was reportedly traveling in Jordan recently, where he may have picked up the virus.
There is no cure or vaccine for MERS-CoV, meaning doctors can only treat patients’ symptoms. Italian authorities said the newest patient is in good condition and being monitored in isolation.
