Republicans blast Sebelius, demand ObamaCare fundraising docs
{mosads}On Thursday, lawmakers criticized the HHS secretary for failing to
answer “specific questions” about her efforts to raise money for the
enrollment group.
“We urge HHS to immediately stop its solicitation for, and coordination with, Enroll America until these questions have been answered,” the senators wrote.
Sebelius came under fire for the fundraising calls in May, when they were first reported by The New York Times and The Washington Post.
Republicans have suggested the calls were unethical because Sebelius regulates the healthcare industry players from which she sought funds. The GOP also objects to HHS seeking more money for ObamaCare implementation because Congress has refused to provide it.
HHS argues that Sebelius’s calls were legal and have precedents in the George W. Bush administration. The department has also said that Sebelius only called two healthcare entities.
Enroll America is in the midst of launching a multi-state public education campaign to encourage the uninsured to get their benefits under ObamaCare.
It has been a major target for Republicans because of its close ties to the White House.
