Poll shows split on Obamacare

A new CBS News poll released Wednesday shows 48 percent of Americans approve of the Affordable Care Act, the highest number since the news outlet began asking the question seven years ago.

But almost just as many, 47 percent, disapprove strongly.

When broken down by party, 61 percent of Republicans said they strongly disapprove of President Obama’s signature healthcare law, while 44 percent of Democrats strongly approve.   

{mosads}According to the poll, just 22 percent of those surveyed think the law should be repealed, the lowest since the question was first asked by CBS in 2013.

Among the 22 percent who want the law repealed, 47 percent want it to happen as soon as possible, while 50 percent want Congress to agree on a replacement first.

Six in 10 said they are “very concerned” about the law being repealed without being replaced.

The poll comes after Congress last week passed a budget resolution including the first step toward repealing the healthcare legislation. 

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to repeal and replace the law and said, despite some pushback from members of his own party, that a replacement must come “very quickly.”

A Wednesday NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that ObamaCare is more popular today than it has been since 2009, with 45 percent viewing it as a good idea and 41 percent saying it’s a bad idea.

The survey was conducted Jan. 13–17 on landline and cellphones, polling 1,257 adults across the country. It has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
