George P. Bush backs defunding ObamaCare
George P. Bush, candidate for Texas land commissioner and the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, said Wednesday he supports efforts to defund President Obama’s signature healthcare law.
“It’s a monstrosity of a law,” Bush said Wednesday, according to The Dallas Morning News. “In terms of defunding it, that would be one way to reduce and mitigate the impact it’s going to have on practicing physicians and hospitals here in Texas.
{mosads}“I agree with this effort to defund it, or keep Texas out of the program unless we can modify it to a Texas-specific solution,” Bush added.
Some GOP lawmakers in both chambers have vowed to oppose any spending measures that fund the healthcare law, risking a government shutdown after Sept 30. But many others fear the effort could hurt the party if voters blame the GOP for the shutdown.
Bush was in Addison, Texas, to deliver the keynote address at a Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Bush is running unopposed for the GOP nomination for Texas land commissioner.
His father, Jeb Bush, is also seen as a potential contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
