Upton challenges Obama, touts GOP healthcare proposals

In the past three years, Republicans have focused their healthcare efforts on opposing the Affordable Care Act, holding 40 votes against the law in the House alone.

Several of these votes promised to “repeal and replace” ObamaCare, though neither the House nor Senate GOP Conferences have push a comprehensive healthcare reform proposal of their own.

The House GOP has also struggled to rally behind leadership’s healthcare priorities. Earlier this year, a Republican bill to shore up ObamaCare’s insurance plan for sick patients was pulled from the floor after failing to garner enough GOP votes.

In his piece Tuesday, Upton listed several individual healthcare bills from Republican lawmakers, including a measure from Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) that seeks universal coverage through tax incentives and automatic enrollment in employer-sponsored health insurance.

He also noted that the conservative Republican Study Committee is preparing to unveil a comprehensive ObamaCare “replace” bill that will include protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
