Health agency laments ‘alarming’ substance abuse among US teens
{mosads}SAMHSA Administrator Pamela Hyde said the new report “sheds new
light on how deeply substance use pervades the lives of many young
people.”
“This report shows that far too many young people are still at risk,” she said in a statement.
Thursday’s data came from analyses of SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health and National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services.
The report also included estimates of how many teens use an illicit drug or alcohol for the first time in a day. Those figures were about 4,600 and 7,600 young people, respectively.
