Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) says the GOP’s plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare will include accessible and affordable health coverage.
“I think everyone should have a policy that is accessible and affordable,” Burgess told CNN’s “New Day.”
“Again, that doesn’t mean cheap, but it does mean affordable within what the disposable income a family has to spend each month. I do think that’s possible.”
{mosads}Burgess, who chairs the House subcommittee on health, argued that repealing the individual mandate was essential to appealing ObamaCare.
“In my book, repealing the individual mandate is on an equal par with repealing the Affordable Care Act,” he said.
Republicans last month took the first steps toward repealing President Obama’s signature healthcare legislation. Lawmakers are currently working on a plan to replace the healthcare law.
President Trump, who campaigned on repealing ObamaCare, said he would like a replacement to come “very quickly.”
Burgess said on CNN that there should be movement within a few weeks on a plan from House Republicans, but did not have an answer on the Senate.
“Everyone will have coverage available to them,” he said.
