Trump: ‘Proud to support’ GOP replacement ObamaCare plan

President Trump on Tuesday threw his support behind the House’s ObamaCare repeal plan, expressing hope it will pass quickly through Congress.

“I’m proud to support the replacement plan released by the House of Representatives,” Trump said after meeting with almost two dozen House Republicans at the White House.

“I think it’s going to go very quickly,” he added.

{mosads}Trump said the plan follows the principles he said in last week’s address to a joint session of Congress: keeping costs low, expanding access to insurance plans and allowing Americans to choose their doctor.

“I think it’s complicated but actually it’s very simple,” he said. “It’s called good healthcare.”

It’s the strongest endorsement of the plan from Trump since it was released Monday.

Republicans will likely need Trump to use his bully pulpit to ram the legislation through the lower chamber, which is deeply divided over the plan.

It ran into a buzzsaw of opposition from conservatives, who said plan does not live up to the GOP’s promise of fully repealing the law and balked at the potential high cost of the measure.

GOP critics of the plan dubbed it “ObamaCare lite” and members of the House Freedom Caucus indicated they would release their own repeal-and-replace plan, which could make it difficult for House leaders to cobble together the votes needed for their legislation.
