Dems force reading of entire GOP healthcare bill to drag out committee markup
Democrats forced the GOP’s ObamaCare repeal and replace plan to be read out-loud in its entirety during a markup in the House’s Energy and Commerce Committee hearing Wednesday.
At the request of Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the clerk read the text of the American Health Care Act, which took about an hour.
Democrats are trying to drag out the markup of the bill for as long as possible in protest of it being presented without a score from the Congressional Budget Office. That analysis will indicate how much the law will cost and how many people will lose coverage.
{mosads}They also argue the GOP’s plan will not save money for the healthcare system in the long run.
Ranking member Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.) also said the Democrats have about 100 amendments to bring forward, another tactic that could drag the hearing on for days.
